Windows 7: Verifying DMI Pool Data

I have noticed in the past couple of weeks that, when booting up my PC, this message sticks quite a lot longer than it used to. Usually it takes only a few seconds to get past this, but now every time I boot, it can stick for as long as 10 seconds maybe.
What does "Verifying DMI Pool Data" mean exactly and what can affect it?

I suspect that there is a problem detecting some device connected to the computer. I have had similar problems and the culprits were a USB device and a floppy drive. In your situation, I would disable various devices one at a time and see what happens.

Floppy device, of course! Will try to disable/uninstall from Device Manager, thanks.
I also have a webcam connected through USB but never bothered to either disconnect or install drivers, as I never use it XD
will try the webcam first

EDIT - Nothing changed by installing webcam drivers, but thanks for that, I probably never would install them otherwise XD

But, this looks... strange... i haven't noticed this before.

Yes, I consistently saw this message on Win 98/2000 machines/ME also, and also more so on desktops but hardly ever on laptops for some reason?

What looks strange about it? Looks normal to me, but looking normal doesn't mean that it isn't a problem. Try disabling it, but it would be better to do so from the BIOS, because that would effect both the drive and the controller. Doing so from Windows wouldn't keep the BIOS from looking.

One of the suggestions in another place was to reset the bios to system defaults.
