Windows 7: Start Menu Icons Can't Be Removed

Hi all.



Having a strange problem with a new laptop. Everything's running really well, but I can't seem to remove items in the start list. Also, the little arrow that used to bring up extra shortcuts next to each item no longer does anything.

Any ideas?

did you try right-click on the item you want to remove and selecting unpin?

Yeah, it will unpin them, but it won't let me remove them. Not all are actually pinned, some are the recently used programs.

I've tried unticking and reticking "Store recently opened programs in the start menu" box and clicking apply. It gets rid of the ones underneath my pinned icons, but they come back and can't be removed again. And the arrows next to them still don't work.

Right click on the orb for the Start Menu and choose Properties. Click on the Start Menu tab and there are a couple of options that will allow you to view/not view recently used programs in the Start Menu and the Task Bar. Uncheck what you don't want.

I've tried that. It's not that I don't want any icons to show up, it's that I want to be able to remove ones I don't want to show up. And I liked the shortcuts that the arrows led to, but can't seem to get them either. The arrow shows up, but nothing happens when I click them.

Guessing this isn't a common problem then? Only had the laptop a few days, don't know why it's happening to me already.

Still no ideas? Google's not much help.

When clicking the highlighted "Remove from this list", absolutely nothing happens. The items remain exactly as they are. Also, the arrows next to Google Chrome, Media Monkey and Audacity no longer do anything at all.

They did initially work when I got the laptop, but then just suddenly stopped.

Set the properties from right click start menu to not remember anything, then set it back. I had this happen during beta, cleared it up.

Already done that one. It does clear up the Start menu, but the arrows still don't work, and when the items start showing up on the start menu again it won't let me remove the ones I want to.
