Computer wakes up after seconds in sleep - Solved Hello,
I'm new here and I have a problem with Windows 7.
I cannot use the sleep function! This is is so frustrating.. I used to put my computer to sleep all the time in XP. But when I upgraded to Windows 7 a while ago, my computer just wakes up instantly after going into sleep mode, as if I was spamming the power button.
I have tried searching for answers, and one solution I have tried was the "network card activity problem". However, it didn't work.
Could anyone please help me with this, or point me in the right direction?
Thanks!
EDIT: See bottom post for solution

So you are telling me that you tried to put the computer to sleep, but it would not stay asleep. Then right away you took the powercfg test>
Want to know how to stop the keyboard from keeping it awake? If that is the cause. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell XPS 420 OS Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, clean install, upgrade disc CPU Intel Core2 processsor Q8200(2.33Ghz 1333FSB) Quad Core Tech Motherboard Dell Memory 6 gb Graphics Card ATI Radeon 256MB HD3650 Sound Card Intergrated 7.1 Channel Audio Monitor(s) Displays Dell SP2009W 20" Keyboard Dell USB Keyboard Mouse Dell Premium Optical USB Cooling Fan Hard Drives 640 GB Serial ATA Hard drive Internet Speed DSL 2.85 |

Yes, and after I made the powercfg test I tried plugging my keyboard out, and hit "sleep" again. And the computer stayed in sleep.
After this, I tried unchecking the box "let this device wake up computer in sleep" in the properties for the keyboard, found in "device manager". This did not work.
Any suggestions? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number (Custom built system) OS Windows 7 Professional 32-bit (6.1, Build 7600) CPU Intel Core 2 Quad @ 2.83GHz Motherboard Asus P5Q Turbo Memory 4096MB RAM (2x 2GB PC6400 DDR2) Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB Sound Card Creative SoundBlaster Audigy Monitor(s) Displays Samsung SyncMaster P2350 PSU Zalman 600W Case Antec Performance One Cooling 4x Noctua fans Hard Drives Western Digital VelociRaptor 10000RPM SATA |

That was going to be my suggestion, to turn it off from the device manager. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell XPS 420 OS Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, clean install, upgrade disc CPU Intel Core2 processsor Q8200(2.33Ghz 1333FSB) Quad Core Tech Motherboard Dell Memory 6 gb Graphics Card ATI Radeon 256MB HD3650 Sound Card Intergrated 7.1 Channel Audio Monitor(s) Displays Dell SP2009W 20" Keyboard Dell USB Keyboard Mouse Dell Premium Optical USB Cooling Fan Hard Drives 640 GB Serial ATA Hard drive Internet Speed DSL 2.85 |

Any other ports you could try for the keyboard? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell XPS 420 OS Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, clean install, upgrade disc CPU Intel Core2 processsor Q8200(2.33Ghz 1333FSB) Quad Core Tech Motherboard Dell Memory 6 gb Graphics Card ATI Radeon 256MB HD3650 Sound Card Intergrated 7.1 Channel Audio Monitor(s) Displays Dell SP2009W 20" Keyboard Dell USB Keyboard Mouse Dell Premium Optical USB Cooling Fan Hard Drives 640 GB Serial ATA Hard drive Internet Speed DSL 2.85 |

It works!
Previously I had my keyboard plugged in a front USB port (because in XP I had to "reset" the keyboard from time to time, haven't had this problem in Windows 7 though).
I changed to a port in the back, and my computer will now sleep like a baby!
I can even have the "let this device wake up computer in sleep" box checked!
Funny how simple this was to solve.. I have scratched my head for hours, looking on google and reading several support forums before posting here.
Thanks Richard! | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number (Custom built system) OS Windows 7 Professional 32-bit (6.1, Build 7600) CPU Intel Core 2 Quad @ 2.83GHz Motherboard Asus P5Q Turbo Memory 4096MB RAM (2x 2GB PC6400 DDR2) Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB Sound Card Creative SoundBlaster Audigy Monitor(s) Displays Samsung SyncMaster P2350 PSU Zalman 600W Case Antec Performance One Cooling 4x Noctua fans Hard Drives Western Digital VelociRaptor 10000RPM SATA |

Do you want to know why I help out here? It is because it gives us such a great feeling to be able to help and then get that big TY and sometimes the smiley face. You are very, very welcome.
When the solution is difficult it is sometimes easier to find? Lol
Ty for the rep, that too is appreciated. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell XPS 420 OS Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, clean install, upgrade disc CPU Intel Core2 processsor Q8200(2.33Ghz 1333FSB) Quad Core Tech Motherboard Dell Memory 6 gb Graphics Card ATI Radeon 256MB HD3650 Sound Card Intergrated 7.1 Channel Audio Monitor(s) Displays Dell SP2009W 20" Keyboard Dell USB Keyboard Mouse Dell Premium Optical USB Cooling Fan Hard Drives 640 GB Serial ATA Hard drive Internet Speed DSL 2.85 |
