registry editing disabled from administrator account

    registry editing disabled from administrator account


    i cannot edit the registry from my administrator account. is it a default setting in windows 7 or something is wrongly configured???. if wrongly configured then what to do to enable it???thanks in advance!!

    That's not entirely true,, and this may be a band-aid,,, but not a resolution to this issue.

    Yes, You can edit the registry from you Account that is Admin.
    You do not need to enable the (so called) Super Admin account.

    Either the User you are logging in with is not an Admin, or it is Corrupt, or there is another problem.

    Your first solution should be.... create a New User with Admin rights.
    logon with that user and try editing the registry again.
    If that works, then either the other user is not an admin, or the profile is corrupt.

    If it doesn't work, then you need to try sfc /scannow

    If that doesn't work, then personally, I would suggest backup data, NuKe and Reload the OS.
    If rights or womething else to Regedit are broken, there is no telling what else might be,, safe to start over than try to patch and fix repeatedly.

    You might see if doing METHOD THREE in the tutorial below can help you enable regedit again.

    i am not trying to edit specific entries in the registry: i hardly know anything about registry editing! actually some programs that i recently installed show that the installation didnot go right because the registry couldnot be written upon!!two of them are: scientific workplace 5.5 and cooledit 2000. i will try out your solutions . lets see!!! i have just recently installed windows 7 ultimate. i like the look . i knew quite a few things about windows xp!! i wonder wats there to be learned newly about windows 7. thanks!!!!

    Puluck,

    You may need to also use Compatibility Mode on the programs as well with "run as administrator" selected for them to install properly in Windows 7 if they are older programs.
