To clarify, if you rename the TUTS FRENCH folder, it's date modified does not change? Is this correct?

I checked on my system and if I change the files inside the folders the date modified doesn't change for the folder; but if I rename the folder the date modified changes.

Some other thoughts:
- Particular programs effect date modified differently, please try to change the files with at least two different programs (e.g. Paint, word)
- I have a script that I wrote to ensure that I have access to secondary drives on my system. It was designed to give me access in Windows 7 when all items on the drive appeared as read only (this happens sometimes on new installs). As it is permission related it may help for your situation, it may also do nothing ; but I will post it if you want to try it.

The date of the folder is not supposed to reflect changes to the files inside the folder.

Thanks for clarifying MacGyvr, this is exactly what I hoped my test would prove (and it did). I just needed someone else to agree and prove that my system did not also have a problem.

Here are two permission related scripts.

Take Ownership
- In this zip file are an install and remove file for this feature. When installed you can right click on any folder/file and take full ownership of it (providing that you have an administrator account)

Clear Read-only on Drives
-When Run as an elevated Administrator it clears the Read only attributes on your hard drives and gives you a report.

A synopsis of our findings so far on your issue
Correct me if I am wrong

• The modified date for a folder does not change, even when it is renamed
• The modified dates for files also do not change
• We recognise that if files are changed within a folder, this will not change the modified date of the folder.
• Regional settings, bios times, bios battery are all a-ok
• The modified date issue is not due to sole use of a 3rd party program (i.e. it occurs in a variety of file change methods, such as a file edited in WORD or PAINT)

Ha... I forgot to tell you to right-click on the batch file and select 'Run as administrator' (this would then be an 'Elevated CMD prompt'). Apologies!
Explanation: The problem is that the batch file creates a vbs script that runs over your drives and ensures that you have access to them, the vbs script won't run unless the little black CMD window (that the batch file runs in) is elevated to administrator.

Please run as administrator and then re-test your modified date issue.

Thanks for affirming my other questions, this means that our narrowed-down problem is 'On the D drive, the modified date for a folder does not change, even when that folder is renamed'.

I freely admit how strange this is but at least we are finding out more about the issue. Do you know the partitioning structure of your D drive, is it FAT16, NTFS, something else?

I think I'll just format the D as NTFS, it might fix the problem.

Hi Sylvia,
I was angling towards a reformat to NTFS if your drive was FAT32. I think that this is your best bet, strange things happen with large FAT drives (whoops.... that was not meant to sound funny ).

If the reformatting as NTFS solves your problem then please let us know.
