startup icons

Hi, I have start up programs that have no icons in the start up tray. Sometimes they are there eg. tivo, answers one click, etc. Sometimes on restart they appear again but not always. My sound icon is often there with a red cross on it but sound is OK. I only have to slide the slider up or down to get it clear. Why is this?
Also internet speed is sometimes very slow and I can't watch you Tube without it stopping and buffering. I tried Speedbit but had to uninstall as it didn't help at all. I hope someone can help me with these problems. Thanks

Hi Maeve,

For your startup icons (that bottom-right section of the Taskbar is called the "Notification Area"), try one of these helpful links:

Change how icons appear in the notification area
Notification Area Icons - Hide or Show System Icons and Notifications

And for your internet troubles, try here: Why is my Internet connection so slow?
Then come back and let me know if you have any more questions!

Cheers,

Fill in your hardware specs and is this a Windows 7 clean install or upgrade?

So I just bought new parts for my PC (i7 3770 and 8gb of ram), and everything was running fine at first, but now my pc starts up pretty slow. The desktop comes up but the only thing I see is the wallpaper and the taskbar. The icons come like a minute later coupled with the windows startup sound. I...

Icons Appearing on Startup
Hi, Every time I startup my machine a number of icons are placed on the desktop. And each time I dutifully remove them. However next time I startup, there they are back again. This is clearly a company "policy" but I never use these icons. Can anyone help me as to what I can do to stop...

Behaviour of Desktop Icons during Startup
Not a problem, just amateur curiosity. Towards the end of my laptop boot, all the shortcuts (not the system icons) go blank then are quickly restored. Why's that?

Icons do not load on startup
My girlfriend recently bought a new laptop from DELL (Studio 15) w/an i7 processor/4GB RAM/64bit Windows 7 ultimate. Anyways, she really doesn't do anything on her computer (definitely doesn't need that kind of computer) and only has these programs installed: Mozilla FireFox (I use)...
