.exe file association

So I half downloaded an app and when I clicked it, it asked what program would I like to associate with it and I accidentally clicked Adobe Reader 9. Now I managed to delete Adobe Reader, but now it asks me what program to associate with .exe every time I run an app. Does anyone know where the ext are in the registry for Windows 7, or how to fix this?

Please help ASAP, as you can see this is a large problem

Try running the EXE option below and let us know of how it goes.

I ended up re-installing Windows 7, but at least everything's fixed.

accidentally re-associated ALL .exe files to open IE!

So, obviously, next to nothing works. Tried this .reg file -- the problem persists, but it did say it was able to make the reg change (good news, since I can't even open regedit)

Any ideas on how to undo this registry change and reset EXE association to default for me?

Windows 7 build 7600 64 bit

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command

(Default) should be
Code:
"%1" %*

It is quite common for some malicious keygens to cause this issue.
Just a heads up for you to be more cautious in the future.

The EXE regfile attached at the link below will fully restore the .exe extension to its origin state.

As Shark said about malicious programs, never, ever click on a downloaded .exe program without first scanning that program for viruses... virus... virii?, and malware...

Windows 7 execs changed

I had the sam ething happen but with Windows Media Center as the default on ALL apps. Downloaded the latest trial version of Kaspersky and it magically fixed the issue. doing a deep scan to double check.
