Windows 7: Explorer Icon Won't Pin

Windows 7 Ultimate x86 SP1

ok, Follow this Tutorial (specially made for you )

1. It's how your Desktop looks now.
I mean no Explorer

Explorer Icon Won't Pin-capture.jpg
So now, Just grab any link file (shortcut) (or make new shortcut) and Pin it to Taskbar.
As I did with HitmanPro shortcut

2. Now we have something like this:
Sift+Right click it and go to "Properties"
Explorer Icon Won't Pin-capture1.jpg

3. You see that circled bar, called "Target"
Delete it.

4. Write %windir%\explorer.exe in the "Target" bar just like I did.

And there you go.. =)
You can change icon clicking "Change Icon" (obviously )
Hope it was helpful

Windows 7

I realize this thread is a little out of date, but I'm having the same problem. The solution above worked to some degree, but I'm unable to pin folders to this item's jump list, as I was able to do with the regular Windows Explorer icon.

Windows 7

In case anyone else has this problem, I found a solution.

When I compared the explorer.exe files in C:/Windows between the computer I'm using and another computer running Windows 7 not expriencing this problem, I noticed the versions were different. I decided to copy the explorer.exe file from the computer not experiencing this issue onto a USB drive. I then used Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+Delete) on the computer experiencing the issue to stop the explorer.exe process. With the USB drive inserted, I then clicked on the File menu and selected "New Task (Run...)". From here I browsed to C:/Windows and deleted the explorer.exe file. I then browsed to my USB drive and copied the explorer.exe file saved here. I then browsed back to C:/Windows and pasted the explorer.exe file in this folder. I then right-clicked on the explorer.exe file and selected "Pin to taskbar." Finally, I double-clicked the explorer.exe file and clicked on OK (in the Create New Task window).

I had previously tried copying explorer.exe from another folder on my computer, hoping this would restore the original explorer.exe file in C:/Windows, but the same old version was copied over. I'm not sure how I managed to place an older version of explorer.exe in my Windows folder. Anyway, I realize this solution requires access to another computer, but at least it works.

Win 7 64bit

In regard to the original problem - this simple fix worked for me:

1. open windows explorer from the start menu and you will see an icon on the task bar
2. right click the icon and select 'pin this program to taskbar'.

Seems too simple to be true but it worked for me, as I was having the same problem after unpinning my original explorer icon.

change icon in explorer
I installed notepad++ and wish to change the icon since it has an ugly, 1995 icon to it for some reason. It looks ugly in explorer when viewing a list of registered file type extensions to notepad such as txt. How can I do this?
