Why So Many Problems With Windows 7?

This is an opinion thread, starting with my opinion.

The idea that Windows 7 is a problematic, terrible new Operating System is a false perception.

If one would read through many of the thread titles, and some of the posts of unhappy people, one might conclude just that: Windows 7 is full of problems.

Windows Seven Forums is a place for people to come when they experience a problem, much like sick people go to a doctor's office or clinic. People who are not sick do not go to to the doctor! Would anyone suggest that everyone is sick because some people seek a doctor's care?

Actually, there are threads here where happy Windows 7 users take time to tell their happy experiences (like well people telling the doctor how good they feel). I happen to be one of those happy Windows 7 users. No mater how many happy Windows 7 users there are out there, most of them will not feel the need to contribute to a forum in the way that users with problems will. So the perception is skewed.

Please consider another analogy. How much does a person need to know about the operation and inner workings of a vehicle before owning or operating said vehicle. Isn't it true if one knows how to insert fuel, turn the key, move the "Drive" selector, use the accelerator and break pedals, and turn the steering wheel they can operate the vehicle. Would anyone suggest such a person is capable of diagnosing a car that will not start? Have you ever heard a person complain about a car that always seems to be breaking down? Would you conclude by their complaint that all cars of that make and model are defective?

The skills needed to use a computer are pushing the 'power on' button and typing on a keyboard. Using specific software takes a great deal more knowledge. However, would anyone suggest such a person is capable of diagnosing a computer that will not start? Is it wise for such a person to attempt to change the Operating System of their computer? Would you conclude by their complaint that all Windows 7 OSs are problematic?

It is the course of wisdom for vehicle owners to learn all they can about the safe operation of their vehicle. The same can be said of computer owners. However challenging, it can be fun and rewarding to learn the inner workings and gain the ability to maintain and repair one's own computer. The volunteers at Windows Seven Forums encourage such hands on education through a library of tutorials and by assisting others in acquiring the skills in researching solutions. Success or failure is up to the computer owner.

It is my hope that this thread will bring some balance to the negative words of angry frustrated computer users.

Couldn't agree with you more! I've been through the many years of transition from Windows 3.0 to what we're banging on today. Every step of the way has been a learning experience and been quite rewarding once you "LEARNED" the ins and outs of the new OS. Although sometimes plagued with frustration and impatience, you figure out that every step forward has brought incredible improvements and benefits that you didn't think were even possible not so long ago.

For the last 19 yrs. these experiences have provided me the opportunity to make my living banging on Windows. :) I don't consider myself a MS fanboy but I am very grateful that MS exist and has continue to develop and improve their product.

As I have posted many times before, hats off to the admins, the mods, and all the members that continue to so willingly share their knowledge and experiences in an effort to help others eliminate the frustrations and sometimes heartache of learning the new product.

With that said, Win7 is certainly a product that far exceeds my expectation and I look forward to sharing it with friends, family, clients, and all that have an interest...

Living in the IT world and repairing computers for so long, My brother and I see now problems with Win7.

We have found that most problems have been User, software, or hardware and not the OS. But, everyone's wants to blame the OS first and I personally think Win7 is great.

This is my two cents, but it's only from my experience.

I tend to look at it as a problem with human engineering. While I like W7 very much, I am having some growing pains with it, because some of the differences and features have a learning curve involved. For those who were/are Vista users the curve is not so steep, but for those like myself who passed on Vista and stuck with XP, the curve is greater.

In a perfect cyber world the hardware and software would be designed in a fashion that the operator would only need to know how to insert the key, press the gas pedal and steer, the computer would be smart enough to compensate for who ever is behind the wheel. Unfortunately, this is not the nature of this world...cyber or not. In the real world many tradgedies could be avoided, if those who designed and produced the machines that we use, took into account the knowledge, physiology and nature of people, a great many sad days could be avoided and life be made much easier.

Windows 7 has not arrived at that point yet, and I doubt that any future versions will ever either. Until that day does arrive, forums such as this will remain, and the help sought can be provided much better if those who council keep in mind the reality of the patients who visit them. It is good to support improvements like W7, but it is not nirvana.
