Multiple windows explorer windows on double click

Whenever I double click on a folder in windows explorer I get a separate window opening. It started when I ran the last update. I have checked under folder options and I have "Open each folder in the same window" set. I have also done tons of searching and couldn't find anything. The closest I found was this
Explorer opens multiple windows when I double click a drive
But it didn't seem to help. I'm curious if anyone has any ideas on how to get this to stop happening.
    Thanks a lot in advance.

Hello Cmoupetr, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you like, you might see if this may be able to help.

Open each Folder in the Same or Own Separate New Window

    Hope this helps, :)

I thank you very much for the warm welcome. Sadly it didn't solve the issue. It did strangely fix a completely unrelated issue I was having with the start up of a program at log in.
I also checked if the problem still occurred in a new user account, and wouldn't you know it, the problem still was occurring.

I just looked on the same thread and checked to see if the registries were set to open in the same window and they were. So registries don't seem to be the issue...

Was the last update a single file or multiple files? If it was singular, then you can uninstall it and hopefully correct the situation. If it was multiples, try uninstalling one at a time to locate the one causing a problem.

The uninstaller isn't giving me an option to uninstall any updates from yesterday, there are only updates from three days ago and before.

You could also do a system restore using a restore point (if available) dated before this happened to hopefully undo and fix this.

Run a SFC scan please, following instructions from SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker.

A run of the SFC scan didn't help, but I did a system restore. Everything's working now. I just wish I could have fixed it without that. Oh well.
