Help, I don't have permission to do anything

    Hey Guys,

so I went Start > Run > user controlpasswords2 and I set the full name of my account from Mitchell ****** to Mitchell I went to the last tab and I guess I accidentally scrolled my mouse down and it took me from the Administrator group and put me in the HomeGroup User group.

Now, I don't have permission to do anything. I'm the only administrator account on the computer. The other administrator account I disabled and now I'm stuck.

I've tried booting into safe mode but I made it in Msconfig that you can't see other boot options. I have no way of getting into Msconfig or boot.ini for that matter.

I've run out of ideas and I really don't want to reinstall Windows. How can I get into my computer? Can someone please give me some ideas?

I don't know if it will work but have you tried a System Restore to a date just before you did the change ?

Tried that, but when I open up system restore it wants me to enter an administrator password.

Hi Mitchel, the method described in the Vista Forums helped me with a similar problem with Win7: Reset User Account Password - Vista Forums

If you disabled the built in admin, and changed your login there really inst much to do.

Was the admin account you disabled the buil in and hidden one?

Thanks for the suggestion but I need to enter a password to be able to create a new User Account. I'm not even a standard user I can't do anything.

EDIT: I'm going to try using System Restore with the Windows 7 disk.

Yes it was, I've booted into Windows from the installation disk so I'm going to try System Restore. I'll post if it works or if it doesn't work :)

UPDATE 1: I got into Windows System Recovery Options, and I selected System Restore. It loaded up and gave me a selection of Restore Points. I've selected a point where I was an Administrator.

    Now we wait.

UPDATE 2: The system finished and is now restarting.

UPDATE 3: I have my account back. I really love the help this forum puts out, all the suggestions you give really shows how you guys all come together to help. I will REP you all when I'm on my desktop.

Your system restore should work. If not, it is method 3 in that post in Vista I had in mind and worked for me

    Update: glad it worked!
