7 does not like my machine

I finally decided to install windows 7 Pro on my machine in place of XP Pro. I ran the advisory and microsoft said I might have one problem with the nforce system management control, but I went forward anyway. The install did not go well. I would reach the point where windows said it was expanding files and then the screen would go blank. Sometimes white, sometimes blue. After about 8 tries, I switched to a vga monitor hookup instead of a digital one and the install went all the way. I then moved the case to its normal domicile and turned it on. 7 started up normally, ran for 3 to 5 minutes, and then the screen went blank again. Started machine again and found a problem in hardware as reported by Device Manager (nvidia nforce system management control). Could not find a driver on the internet that would fix the problem, but the driver on the cd that came with the motherboard resolved the problem in the device manager. Still machine goes to blank screen after short period. Machine runs fine in 7 Safe Mode, runs fine with the hd that has XP on it. I have tried using other hard drives, but have the same install problem. I have checked the ram memory over a ten hour period(fine), checked all of the connections, checked the cpu temp(25-35). I have not installed any virus software yet and have nothing hooked up except monitor, keyboard and mouse. I have installed the updated drivers for the motherboard and integrated video, and windows says all the other drivers are the correct ones for my purpose. I have tried doing windows updates, but they fail to install and then the screen goes blank again. 7 does not like my machine. Any thoughts from anyone? Thanks

Microsoft tried to tell you that nforce system management control was not compatible and I believe you still have it installed. Since it works in safe mode (where no video driver is loaded) but not a normal boot I would suspect your best bet is to remove it and the driver and re-install just the driver from the nvidia site.

When upgrading your graphic driver you MUST remove all traces of the current driver. In order to do that we recommend using Guru3D - Driver Sweeper

When it is removed then download and install the fresh copy.

I thought that the system management controll was needed for the cpu to communicate with the hard drive. I did uninstall the video in the device manager. The native windows drivers took over and the screen still went blank.

Can this be done in Safe Mode? System will not run long enough in regular boot to do this.

Did you run the Nvidia driver detection utility on the machine? Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers

Compare the mobo drivers found using Option Two with the ones found searching via Option One.

Yes, I ran the Nvidia detection utility. It gave update drivers for the video but not for the nforce system management controlleer. The mother board update from EVGA was the same file as Nvidia. Originally, the device manager said that there was unknown hardware and the update from Nvidia did not remedy this. After directing the device manager to the cd that came with the mother board, the controller was identified and placed under system devices by the device manager.

See if you can get into Safe Mode with networking to connect to Windows Update; check optional updates for drivers after enabling auto-updating of hardware: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w...-your-hardware
