    snap feature not available

Did an upgdrade from Vista Business to Win7 Professional on my sony sz laptop. I had done a lot of prep by removing programs and cleaning the system in advance. It went Amazingly smooth...with one exception. The snap feature the first time it was about to be utilized was frozen by an unrelated problem. At least that is what appeared to me. Apparently a legacy shell extension was not playing nice. Hopefully I repaired that).

Is there any way to "reinstall" that feature? I have checked and unchecked the box to use this featue but there is no effect. I've looked at turning on/off windows features and don't find it listed. Thank you.

Try snap this way. The drag method takes a lot of dexterity. Hold down the windows key and use the arrows (not on the number pad) to go left or right. If it still freezes then we know its Snap and not anything else

No luck on using win key for snap

Appreciate the suggestion. No effect at all using the win key and arrows. Freezing does not occur with snap, just "snap" doesn't happen. This feature seems to not be available. I suppose if that is the only problem with an upgrade I shouldn't complain.

The freezing I referred to in my post actually was caused by right clicking on the desktop to remove a folder at the same time that a message appeared indicating something about the snap feature being activated. The unending rotating circle of system busy occured with the right click and I had to hard shut down the computer to start over. I believe the right click problem was from a legacy right click context extension that I have since re-installed then uninstalled.

Make sure that it has been turned on correctly. See my post below. Then if it does not work:

Two ways to try to fix it.

In search type cmd, then do not hit enter, right click on cmd and then run as administrator.

In the cmd prompt type sfc /scannow. If errors are found run it a few times

    If that does not work

    Try this

    Repair Install

I think I have the solution, if this is not the action that you already took. From our excellent tutorial library

Have you installed the latest display driver for your laptop from Son'y website (try that first) or Nvidia's? Is there a Generic VGA driver in device manager?

    Snap issue resolved...painlessly

Regarding loss of Snap feature. Sometimes things are just not what they seem. I had not selected a theme. Aero Snap is a feature of the Aero desktop and is only available if one selects an Aero theme. Picked a theme and Snap worked.

    Thanks for all the suggestions.

I did ultimately do a format clean install so I wouldn't have to keep searching out the unrelated intermittent right click problem. I might do a new thread as a testimonial to doing a clean install versus upgrade for those on the fence about which to do.

Always do a clean install. An upgrde is like paint, all the old problems remain. Thanks for reporting the results.
