Presaved Chinese docs/srt won't open in Word/Notepad

Hello,

This problem started recently, and I don't know what changed. For some reason Wordpad and/or Notepad have quit displaying Chinese characters in .srt files. I also have some documents that were written in Chinese, and those are no longer displayed if I open them in Wordpad or Notepad.

I'm using Windows 7 Pro x64, It's in English, but I have Sogou Pinyin installed and can display Chinese no problems. I have Chinese fonts in the fonts folder too.

If I write something in Chinese, I can save it, and reopen it in Wordpad/Notepad and I'm able to see the Chinese characters.

I find it hard to believe that ANY pre-saved Chinese document I open is corrupted.

Setting my system to Chinese isn't do-able, since I can't read Chinese.

Any ideas?
