Can't change from read only

Hi All,

I have just installed win 7. When I'm creating a new folder it sets it as read only. When I'm removing the read only from the check box it is remains read only.

What can I do???

Thanks,
Nahum

Welcome to Windows 7 Support forums.
Check your UAC and how your account is set up.
If you do not have admin privelages re-set your account to system administrator to raise your permission level in your UAC.

Unlike the Read-only attribute for a file, the Read-only attribute for a folder is typically ignored by Windows, Windows components and accessories, and other programs.

This behavior is by design.

You cannot change the Read-only or the System attributes of folders in Windows Server 2003, in Windows XP, in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

Check out the Cause, Workaround and Status sections in the link.

The "Read Only" attribute of which you are speaking, it is one of the following:
  1. Clear (Read Only if Off). The folder, and none of the files it contains have the readonly-attribute set.
  2. A Checkmark? (Read Only is set). The folder, and all the files it contains are read-only.
  3. Filled in? (Read Only is not determined). Some of the files within the folder are read-only, and some are not. This state also holds true for newly created folders.

try
Code:
attrib C:\myfolder
does it say,
Code:
       C:\myfolder
or
Code:
   R C:\myfolder
if its the first one, then the folder is not readonly.

Anyway, the readonly option in the properties dialog only says "Read-only (Only applies to files in folder)"

OK so it is not read only. Thank you so far. Now the problem is that new folders are created as read only so I can't copy recursevly from my linux machine using ssh.

Any tips?

Thanks,
Nahum
