| Windows 7: Capslock Beep Missing |

Capslock Beep Missing As a head-down typist I rely on the beep sound whenever the 'capslock' key is hit accidentally. Having installed Windows 7 quite recently I tried to set this 'alarm' up, but I cannot hear any beep sound. I have checked and double checked the appropriate settings in the keyboard options of the Easy Access Center and all the right boxes are ticked. The other sounds on my computer are ok , I can listen to music, tv, radio etc.. all through my speakers.
The 'beep' should come from the computer itself and I assume there is no problem there as the BIOS beeps are able to be heard on start-up. I would like to get this running again but I am at a loss as to what to try next.
I should add that I have just re-booted into Windows XP (dual boot) and this function is working properly so it looks like a Windows 7 problem. Could it be Registry based?. | My System Specs |

All that I can say is that it does the same on my machine, but displays a HUD on the screen when the status changes. This has been okay with me, because I usually type heads up. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number DIY OS W7x64 Pro, SuSe 12.1/** W7 x64 Pro, XP MCE CPU Phenom II 1090T w/Noctua NH-D14 /**4400+ X2 w/CM Hyper TX 3 Motherboard ASRock 890FX Deluxe 4/**A8N-SLI Memory 2 x 2GB Patriot PGS34g1600LLKA/**4x1GB Corsair VS Graphics Card EVGA GTX460 SC/**EVGA 8800GTS Sound Card Asus Xonar D2X/**Xonar D1 Monitor(s) Displays Acer X233H, Dell E152FPc /**LG M237-WD Screen Resolution 1920x1080 & 1024x768/**1980x1080 Keyboard Logitech Media USB/**Saitek Eclipse Mouse Cordless Trackman Wheel/**Ditto PSU CM RS600 w/ APC BX1000G/**Antec 500 TP w/ APC BX1000 Case HAF922/**Antec 1040IIB Cooling 3x200mm, 1x140 and 1x120mm/**5x80mm fans Hard Drives WDC 2TB, 1.5TB, 1TB, 500GB,Seagate 500GB , Maxtor 80GB /**500GB Seagate & WDC 1TB Black Internet Speed 3.3Mbps Other Info SB 560 5.1 w/ Sennheiser RS140/**Creative T20 speakers, Dvico FusionHDTV7 Gold RT, Cisco E3000, HP 5510V AIO, Linksys E3000, Belkin F5U237 hub and **F5D8055 adapter

Odd,
I've never actually used that feature. But it seems we all have the same "issue", if you'd call it that.
Toggle keys wont even stay 'ticked' when I exit.

It would appear that others have a similar problem and yet others have no problem at all. I can get it to work but not easily. If i put a tick in the 'turn on Toggle Keys' and save and exit it does not work but if I also tick
'Turn on by holding down Numbers Lock for five seconds' and then press the numbers key continuously I can eventually get a box on screen that askes me if I want to turn on 'Toggle Keys' if i click 'yes' then I get the function and clicking the capslock or numbers lock keys gives a 'beep but I habe to amke sure the speakers volume is turned on because otherwise there will be no sound to be heard. this is all fine except if I re-boot or the monitor turns off (after 20 minutes) then my problem is back again. I am beginning to think it will be qujicker to learn to touch type!. | My System Specs

I should have added that when I re-boot or come out of the power saving mode I mentioned that the 'Turn on Toggle Keys' box has been unticked, (by default?). | My System Specs

I had the same problem, so this discussion was timely. I went to the Ease of Access Center and clicked on the turn on sound box. The capslock key then beeped when accidentally touched. But when I restarted my computer it no longer worked. I think that I may have failed to click the Apply button before clicking OK. Therefore, I redid it all and made sure that I clicked Apply first. I then restarted my computer and it works fine. The only problem is that I have to have the speakers turned on in order to hear the beep. Apparantly the sound comes from the speaker rather than from the computer. On my old computer with XP it was the other way. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell Studio XPS OS windows 7 |

'dbelling' thanks for the information this might help me as I cannot get any sound nomatter what. Can you tell me precisely where you found the "turn on Sound box" option in the Ease of Access Center, i have looked hard but cannot find this option. It may solve my problem. | My System Specs

Sorry rfmn482, but I did not state it correctly because I was writing from memory. It was not the "turn on sound" box that I clicked on, but rather the box labeled "Turn on Toggle Keys". I should have gone to the Ease of Access Center and checked exactly what the name was rather than typing my reply from memory. Sorry. But as I said before, it does work even after I restart my computer as long as I have my speakers turned on or my headphones plugged in. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell Studio XPS OS windows 7 |

It has been working for me in Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit the entire month I've had this new pc. Like Rfmn482, I had to tick both of those entries to get it to work. Just ticking the first box did not do the trick (dunno why). No problems with it after reboots, either. Now, when I hold the NumLock key for 5 seconds, I get the pop-up window that allows me to toggle the feature on and off at will. I use the built-in speakers only on this pc. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP Pavillion p62120t desktop OS Windows 7x64 Home Prem Svce Pack 1, Build 7601.win7sp1Ver 3.0install) CPU Intel Premium Dual Core, 2.7GHz Motherboard Pegatron 2AC2 2.0 Memory 8 GB DDR3-1333 Mhz SSDRAM (2DIMMS) Graphics Card Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD 1000 (GT1) Sound Card Integrated Realtek HD Audio - PCIe GBE Family Controller Monitor(s) Displays HP 2311 Series Wide 23" LED Keyboard USB HP Multimedia keyboard Mouse USB HP Optical Mouse Hard Drives 500 GB Seagate SATA HDD Other Info Canon MX 360 AIO printe; FX 13.0.1; AdBlock+ ; serial interface HP DVD-RAM GH80N; firmware version RF03 Capslock Beep Missing problems?
