    I'm obviously a bit late to the party here....but I'm currently dealing with the same thing...(8GB usb flash )...computer A is using win7 home premium(64) and suddenly has started write protecting all usb devices sporadically...even my cell phone....Computer B is using Win 7 ultimate....I am able to format on Computer B...but having tried everything I have read here and other places, Computer A always reverts to write protection.......so, it doesnt appear to be a problem with then flash drive, as I can get it going again with Computer B.....not to mention Computer A does this to all things USB...

    you should prob start a new thread. the issue is different, my usb stick would not format on any pc/mac. so i binned them.
