    No Aero in Windows 7

    Hej,

I'm new here, and I've seen a lot of other people having this problem too, so I'm wondering if there's some sort of windows fix, or anything really.

    Situation is this:

I'm running an LG xnote, r450, 2.1 Ghz Intel processor, 3gb of Ram, SIS mirage 3 shared, and Windows 7 of course.

It seems honestly like a pretty minor gripe, but since it is such an awesome looking feature of Win7, I really want to enable Aero, and no matter what I try - including a bunch of the fixes I've read - it just doesn't come on.

In msconfig, DWM is not listed as a startup service, and when I run it manually, or when the troubleshooter picks it up as not running, it starts, but doesn;t seem to make any difference. My Windows experience index is 3.2 with that as th graphic performance for Aero. In my system and performance area, choosing best look or best performance, Aero is not an option. It's not greyed out, it just doesn't exist. There is no little checkbox for it. When I click on Windows colour in Personalize, I just get the Windows Basic colour scheme, as though it's Win 98 or something.

Hmmm, really would love some help with this.

    Oh, and I'm running win 7 build 7600 pre-installed.

    Thanks
    D

Try right cliicking on the task bar.
    Properties
Check the box for aero peek preview. Lower left.

If that does not work. Check drivers and make sure your graphics card is working properly. Check drivers is device manager.

Open the Start menu and type "with trans" and press enter. Follow the troubleshooter and report back please.

    Hi Richard,

Thanks. Checked the Device Manager, and everything seems in order. Also, when I right-click on the task bar, the Aero-peek checkbox is greyed out.

    Further baarod,

I have run the Aero troubleshooter a number of times now. It always comes up with the message that the Desktop Windows Manager is disabled, and applies the automatic fix (I have also tried selecting the fix manually), but after it runs, nothing actually happens or changes.

Finally, yeah, brand new drivers downloaded on Sunday night.

    Thanks

You said that the OS was preinstalled, but are you sure which version that was. If I remember correctly, Aero isn't part of some versions.

Yeah it sounds like it s a version that doesn't support Aero. My daughters netbook has starter on it and Aero is disabled. lol you can't even change the desktop wallpaper. Google "Aero enabler" and you might find a way around it. Use at your own risk though, I personally haven't tied it.

Also, I thought perhaps they'd rushed the install, and that I could reinstall and add elements that they'd left out at the shop, but using my disk it just tells me that I cannot upgrade, and really I have no desire to perform a full reinstall and format my drive... sigh.
