Can i know what type of file/icon are you trying to delete? If possible, a screenshot of it? Is it associated with any programs? Did any of the above methods worked out for you?

Code:
6. Open Regedit and navigate to
  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace
Double click on NameSpace and check inside each of the GUID folders. If you are able to identify the icon by name, delete it. This is esp useful for deleting some un-deletable system icons.
Did you go through all the GUID folders and find the icon by name?

Cant get a clear screenshot as the name is too long but here it is and the full name is "[Torrentsworld.net] - Pepe Romero-Boccherini Guitar Quintets(2CD)-Philips.torrent "

If I read your post to a link correctly you need to delete a torrent file that is named in such a way that Windows 64bit cannot delete it but Windows 32bit can? Or is it more that Windows XP can delete it and Windows 7 cannot.

You can delete the desktop file/icon by opening the Command Prompt.
You will need to change "file name" with the first part of your file name.

With the Command Prompt open navigating to the desktop.

cd %USERPROFILE%\desktop
attrib -r -s -h "file name"*.*
del "file name"*.*

That should delete your desktop icon.

Ok change my above post to:

cd %USERPROFILE%\desktop
attrib -r -s -h "[torrents"*.*
del "[torrents"*.*

This just worked, but unfortunately I deleted everything else on my desktop

From a command prompt and after navigating to the desktop folder I typed del *.tor then hit "Y" for yes when asked. Would you happen to know where all the deleted files went?
