Windows 7: Corrupted Hard Drive

Corrupted Hard Drive

I have a 1TB external hard drive that had about 500gb on it. It is now corrupted for an unknown reason. Now when I open the folder I get error messages. Right now I'm running the fix disk utility and but it seems like it froze. It has been saying "92800 index entries processed" for quite a while... Is there any thing I can do to get back my data?
