Windows 7: Autoplay

Autoplay

I have an external USB 120GB 2.5" PATA HDD that I'm setting up to hold portable applications.

I've gone to portableapps.com and downloaded theirv1.6 platform only. I've my own portable apps to run with the platform.

One major problem is that I can't get it to auto run. I've tried microsofts autofix.exe but this errors due I suspect to non conforming O/S. Is there an autofix for win 7? or can someone help in getting autorun/autoplay to work.

I'm not entirely certain that I understand the question. By autoplay, are you referring to the drive itself or the files on it? I don't have an external USB harddrive, but I imagine that it is the same as with my Flash Drive, and when I connect it, an Auto Play window opens, asking how to deal with the drive, as shown below:

Your correct. Under Control Panel\AutoPlay are listed the settings to determine what to do e.g. for software and games - "Install and run programes from your media"

The external HDD has an autorun.inf file as follows

[Autorun]
Open=StartPortableApps.exe
Action=Start PortableApps.com
Icon=PortableApps\PortableApps.com\App\Graphics\usb.ico
Label=Portable Apps

I've connected to XP machine and window opens to chose option to perform - I don't get option to always do this; which is what I'd like, as no radio button is given for this

As I said the autorun/autoplay is not working in win 7 so no window shown

Appreciate help in resolving
