    Memory Problem


    Once again didn't know where to post. I was ready to render a video in Sony Vegas but it kept telling me that the system memory is too low. I put the Dynamic RAM to 0, and tried again and got the same message. I thought it was just vegas until a message popped up that told me to "close the following programs to prevent information loss." I brung up the task manager to find that When Vegas is open, my physical memory percentage shoots up to 70 % or even more than that, and there is little to no memory free. Right now as I am just running Internet Explorer only 44 percent of my computer's memory is being used, with 320 MB free out of 1024MB. I posted it here because I didn't have this problem until today with Windows 7 and never had it with Vista.

    Well,, quite honestly,, if you are trying to render video, you will need to add memory. 4G would be your best start. However, you can probably get away with adding 1G or 2G. RAM is cheap.

    If you are running 32-bit Win 7 then 4G is max.

    Even though you could get away with running Windows and Sony Vegas in XP, and maybe Vista..... with only 1G of ram
    7 is different, even slightly different than Vista.

    What is "Dynamic RAM to 0" ,, is that a Sony Vegas setting?

    the other thing you can check is virtual memory.

    Right click computer / Properties
    I think on the left click on Advanced Settings
    Another windows should open and click Advanced Tab
    Then Performance Settings button
    Then Advanced Tab
    Then Virtual Memory Change button

    This should be right,, sorry,, not on that system.

    Change to Custom Size and for Minimum set 1536 which is (1024 x 1.5=1536)
    and Max 3072 which is (1024 x 3 = 3072)

    Then hit ok all the way out and reboot.

    Try running Vegas again.

    First off, you don't state which version of W7 that you are using. 1GB of RAM is the minimum requirement to run the 32 bit version, but only half of the minimum for the 64 bit. It sounds as though the program that you are trying to use is a memory hog, thus may not be compatible with W7. Have you checked to see if there is an updated version compatible with W7?

    If you are running on 1GB of RAM get 1 more GB. You can also set the "virtual memory" to 1.5X or 2X the physical memory. These are the wrong settings for you, but this is where you will find the settings to change them.

    Sony Vegas is a Video Editing suite. Video editing by nature takes up a huge amount of memory.
    It wants, needs, and loves RAM. OP needs more of it. Plain and simple.

    Who on earth sold you a 1GB system with Win7. This is not going to work for videos, however you play it. If you are doing some web browsing and write the occasional letter, you might be Ok with a 32bit Win7. For more, and especially video processing, you need more RAM. Get as much as you can fit into the box for 64bit and 3GB for 32bit. You can scan your system with this site (very reputable company) and you'll know what's feasable.

    It's not surprising. The BIG OEM's will sell you anything you want.
    If people won't buy a system with 2G+ ram,, they will sell it with 1G as that is minimum and make the dollar.
    Not that I blame them entirely, but I agree, no respecting PC Sales or Tech company should be selling Vista or 7 with less than 2G of ram standard.

    but, the public wants what it wants and hell,, to be honest,
    if I couldn't talk them into the extra 1G,
    i'ld take their money too and then jack the price on the extra gig
    when they start complaining about it (al la Dell).

    Ok guys to answer your questions and such, I am running the Windows 7 proffesional 32 bit. I initially had Windows Vista installed but it was giving me problems. I just happen to find the Windows 7 installation disk sitting around so I decided I might as well install it. I've had it for about a month, and in that time, I had successfully rendered, and uploaded 2 - 3 videos with Sony Vegas without any problems at all.

    Oh and Tepid, which is the minimum set option?
