    Format Windows 7

    Hello,

Is it possible to format Windows 7 by inserting the Windows 7 DVD while Windows 7 is still running?

You mean, you want to format your system partition?

No, only Wiley Coyote can erase himself.

Boot the DVD, use the Install>Custom>Drive Tools to delete, repartition and format.

Free Partition Wizard bootable CD gives you even more options and is a great tool to have around.

I don't quite understand your question but you might want to take a look at DISKMGMT.MSC.

Some of the goodies only show up when you right click on the graphical representation of your partition and others only show up.

You might also want to go to a command prompt (type CMD.EXE in search box, right-click on cmd.exe in the resulting list and choose Run as Administration). Now, type DISKPART

At the Diskpart prompt type ? to get a list of the DiskPart commands.

When you finished with DiskPart, type EXIT and hit Enter to exit DiskPart.

To exit from the command line prompt, once again type EXIT and hit Enter.

DiskPart is very powerful and, consequently, very dangerous. That said, I use DiskPart frequently especially when preparing USB sticks, using VFD, deleting, shrinking, expanding partitions.

If you have any important files, folders, and/or documents then please save them on alternative media before proceeding. You can restore these afterwards.

If you wish to start from scratch, which is what I think you do, then have a look here: Clean Install Windows 7

Well then, by all means take Dwarfs advice. Make sure you get every document and piece of information you want to keep off that drive b4 you do anything. Then
read up until you`re absolutely sure you are ready to proceed. Will this be your 1st OS install? I wish I could hand you a hard drive to use , you will see how simple it is. It`s like having a new PC Ask here or Email me with any questions, I`m glad to help.
