    Question on expiration...

So 2 days ago, I got the thing pop up in the system tray saying my license will expire in 12 days. I'm running the RC 7100 build...

Now I know with past experiences, when the license expired, in the fine print of the T&A, it said the computer would randomly shut off and restart until a new license was entered in.

Is the same thing going to happen with this version of 7? Or what's going to happen? And is there nothing that can be done about it other than buying a new license (copy) of Win7? Thanks guys.

The Windows Seven RC expires in two phases. Starting March 1st, you system will shut down every two hours and you are going to get those unpleasant nagging screens telling you the Windows is about to expire. When shutting down, it will not save your work, so what ever you are doing /editing / creating when it shuts down will be lost.

RC expires completely on June 1st.

    Welcome to the Forum

Kari is right the deadline is just a few months away. The only solution is to buy a copy of Windows 7 and install it. You could of course return to your previous OS.

As you have seen during your test period, Win 7 is really a great OS and worth the cost. I would use the next few months to look for a bargain, and there may be some with the poor economy. MS knows when the expiration date is and they will problably wait until after that date to offer any reduced prices, but they will. I feel, before the end of the year. Take my information and if you agree, do whatever you feel is best in your situation.

An interesting point, something I haven't been thinking. Thanks for an eye opener, Rich!

Kari, you have just stumbled on the greatest benefit of this Forum, while helping the OP, we are helping each other and learning as well. I have found that it is so true, "The best way to learn is to teach". Take care.

    Rich, Kari,

Microsoft will have a good idea how many copies of the RC are still in regular use at 1st March, (as we all know, they are psychic ) - If the expected conversion level of these copies to RTM/GA versions does not happen, we may see some special offers appearing before the official "time-bomb" date, at least in some markets
