    service names changed?

    Hi there,I noticed today that a few of the names in services has changed;
    now have iphlpsvc,nlasvc,trkwks,wbiosrvc,wcncsvc,wecsvc,wersvc,windefend
    as far as i can make out,it is the actual file names now.

    I know what they are,I was just wondering if it is something i have done or if the recent update has changed the names.
    All seemed to happen when windows activation technologies service was added.
    If MS has changed the names is there a particular reason for it?
    Thanx.

    Hello Simon,

    If you mean under the "Name" column in Task Manager, then this is normal. :)

    No,I mean under services control panel.i tweak my services all the time and iphlpsvc used to be iphelper,windefend used to be windows defender,wersvc used to be windows error reporting,wcncsvc used to be windows connect now,wscsvc used to be security centre.Quite a few more have changed but i don't want to do whole list(plus these are the ones i can remember what they used to be for sure).As i'm always tinkering i was just wondering if anyone elses has changed(i've still got a feeling if it wasn't me,then it was the last update.

    Nope, it shouldn't be like that in Services. You might see if running a sfc /scannow command may be able to sort it for you.

    If not and this was recent, then you might do a system restore using a restore point dated when it was ok. Otherwise you may need to do a repair install.

    If all of those are normal, then my installation isn't. The only one that I find in the Task Manager is Windows Defender. In services, I find wbiosrvc,wcncsvc,wecsvc,wersvc & windefend (by their full names). I don't find iphlpsvc,nlasvc or trkwks in either, but that may be due to my configuration.

    What do u mean by their full names?In the left column of services?that's where i'm talking about,or their proper names as in system32.

    Edit: did a sfc /scannow - restart,no change.Forgot it resets my theme patch.Not long put OS on,so will do a re-install some other time as it doesn't seem to be affecting anything.Thanx alot for help.

    If u don't mind admin not to lock post unless u need to, as I have a repair disk,will try 2morro',thanx
