Any successes on hp pavillion notebook?

Hi all, New poster here, my laptop is becoming painfully slow over time and I am wondering if it is time to wipe the hard drive and start from scratch. I have done all the performance tests, virus scans etc to no avail. I have recovery disk available. Good idea? Cheers all.
