    RegIdleBackup task?

Does anybody know anything about the automatic registry backup task? In Task Scheduler, there's a task called "RegIdleBackup", which runs by default at midnight every 10 days.

Does anybody know where these backups are created? I can't find any information on the web about this task. It also says "Custom Handler" under the "Actions" tab, so I can't see what the task actually does when it runs.

As long as I make my own registry backups, I could probably disable this task... don't you think?

I have been wondering the same thing myself.
It would be great to get an answer on this.

The days of needing to perform scheduled backups of the registry are long gone. If you have such a task under ScheduledTasks then remove it.

Win7 has a marvelous Backup and Restore capability. Now if you want to schedule a regular backup there, that would be a sound practice. The System Restore, which is performed automatically by MS before updating, offers you an option which is useful if you are getting to ready to install a piece of software and you want to save the registry in case something goes afoul.

Yeah, I understand your points, and I did disable it. I take backups of my whole system regularly, so it seems kind of redundant to take separate backups of the registry.

However, I still would like to know where the backups created by this RegIdleBackup task actually go. Microsoft included it for a reason (but probably because the vast majority of casual users aren't going to bother with [or know how to use] system backups, or even System Restore), so the registry backups must go somewhere that they can be retrieved... I wold think.

    I'm just curious.
