This symptom can also be caused if you have changed your defauilt Program files location, or changed the "Install path" while insatlling an application.
The fix is quite simple, rclick the broken icon, and click properties, make sure the drive letter and path match the install location of the Application, for egsample if you installed to "D:\Program files" but the icon says "c:\Program Files" change bothe the Target location, and the start in location, and vwalla, your icons will be back.
This happened to me beacuse I used Tweak UI to change my default Install path from "C:\Program files(x86) to "D\Program files(x86)" (64bit Win7 32bit app location) Drop the "(x86) fior 32bit systems or win7 64bit apps, as well In 64bit systems the registry entries muist be changed in 32bit registry (regedit) and 64bit registry (wow64) Yes there is 2 registrys for 64bit MS os's, Microsofts way of making things complicated.
Hope this helps.
