Locked out-password not recognized. Help needed.

I've never been a member of any forum, so forgive me if I seem a bit clueless.

Brand new to Windows 7 (primarily a Mac user for work). 2 days ago I bought a Toshiba Satellite A505 laptop w/ core i3. I spent a few minutes yesterday getting familiar w/ it. I did create a password when prompted, but it never prompted me to create a password override/change disc (my words, I don't remember the exact phrase). Today when I turned it on, my password was not recognized. I double checked the cap lock & number lock and retried multiple times to no avail. Any ideas how I can bypass or disable this feature - I'm still on the login screen.

    Welcome to seven forums 5chris9:

Sorry to hear of your issue with your new toy!

There are several tools around on the net that can unencrypt the password such as Ophcrack or PC Login Now... both are downloads that create a bootable CD which will reveal a forgotten or lost pw.

Hello 5Chris9, welcome to Seven Forums!

The tutorial at the link below may be of help, you should have a "System Restore" point from the initial install still viable.

Password Reset : Using System Restore in Windows 7

Also when you get back in have a look at this tutorial.

Password Reset Disk : Windows 7 / Vista

I hope you can get it sorted, please keep us informed.

Thanks to all who tried to help. I guess I got a bit overwhelmed with the technical language. So, I called the store & they said they would take care of it w/o charge. It its free, its for me!

    Thanks again,

In the future try and choose a PW wisely! Glad you sorted it all out!

As for a good method of creating a secure PW... I advocate using a sentence such as: "I am the master of my domain 2010"... or whatever you want (good idea to incorporate a meaningful number too). Then take the 1st letter of each word... IATMOMD2010. A great pw... and nobodys gonna guess or crack that easily!
