Last week my motherboard died (on a HP pc less than a year old ) so I brought my pc to my computer guy. He installed XP (it's the only OS he'll use) and then took my windows 7 and installed that as I couldn't get it to install. Well, I'm having a load of program issues. So this morning I woke up thinking maybe the problems stem from the 7 disk being an upgrade for Vista and we upgraded from XP. Whatcha think?

Now if I go buy a full version of Windows 7, can I install over what I have on here already or do I, once again , have to back up everything and start from a clean drive??

Also, I'm using Outlook again. My PC guy put it on the pc so of course I jumped right on it to see if it could be used. It has it's issues, a few errors when I first open the program, but it does work. Didn't Outlook become obsolete with 7?
Please help. Before the motherboard died, my video card died. I needed to buy a new one of those and then a new psu to support it. My printer also died! So for about a month I've been dealing with PC issues, shelling out all kinds of money and I've had it. I'd like to wrap all these problems up and just be done with it.

Thanks

Please Tell us what programs you are having trouble with and we can help you with them. You already have 7 installed. Is it the email program? Or something else that you use for your work. Good luck to you.

Hi,

A little later I will read the tutorials again. I'll give it a shot if I feel comfy. I would LOVE to learn to do this myself. Running to someone whenever I have a problem is a hassle. We'll see.

Thanks everyone

Hi, sorry I didn't see you Myzr.

Not just Outlook, but omg. Windows Media player is awful. I make my playlists, they vanish, the MP3's copy and are put in another folder automatically. My playlists double and triple. I put the music in Users>Tousdae>My Music and they showed up in the music library, but some MP3's were missing from the folders there but not in users>my music. I messed around with this for a total of about 5 hours all week. Then I thought maybe if I move my music to my slave drive that would cure the problem. It went well for awhile and then when I reopened it sometime later the playlists were gone again. Then I just downloaded Real Player and have that for 2 weeks for free. I gave up on Media.

I have some issues with Word. Just errrors again that pop up but then the program works fine. I click on internet explorer and it keeps wanting to set up IE again ... ????????

With Outlook my password won't stick ... and when I open a new email some kind of error comes up saying something is missing, but then I'm able to email. The password really isn't an issue. How lazy can I be lol

Tousdae,
From your posts, I'd wager that you will have no difficulty doing the install yourself.

My only suggestion now is to be sure and printout the procedure you decide to follow. I easily forget a step if I don't have the printed word in front of me.

Thanks for the correction, Carl.

I admit I'm flummoxed by the Windows Mail clients (being a webmail kinda guy) but should know that Outlook is Ofc.

I really tried to use webmail. I was laid off a two years ago and I had to move. My new ISP had a fairly decent webmail client. However, the slow response - compared to an email client - really bugged me. I just couldn't get used to it. I guess I was spoiled by years of using Outlook for business email, planning, scheduling, etc. I would rather have my mail download and then I can read, reply, delete, etc almost instantly.

I also like the convenience of creating folders for various types of email and using rules to automatically sort my incoming email.

I Have a question slightly off my topic. What does it mean when your monitor occassionally goes black for a few seconds and then on again? This happened before. My video card died, but also I could clearly hear the fan on it and how loud it was going. Since my card is brand new, it better not be the card. I wonder if the monitor is going? Ugh seriously ... if 1 more piece of pc equipment goes... I might choke myself lol

Yeah, Wishmaster, I have no desire right now, but then again I've gotten about 6 hours sleep in 2 days lol so that might have something to do with it. I have 2 jobs and not a lot of time to mess around. I was thinking about waiting until my April vacation to try to mess around with this pc. This way if I mess up, I won't have to run around during lunch breaks bringing my pc to the shop and in between 2 jobs try to get everything back on the pc. Will it hurt anything to wait that long?

Thanks

Print my setting up 7 and installing drivers in 7 guides too - I'm sure you'll need it.
