Windows 7: multi issues

seems that I can't catch a break with win 7. using a dial-up connection any time after 1 hour it does the following, A. locks up forced to do manual reboot. B. 50% of downloads are corrupted (size doesn't matter). C. system shuts down on its own yet there are no hardware issues. (double checked this with error logs but there seem to be nothing posted to them) D. system locks up while running some basic programs IE defrag email ect. all drivers are current and compatible, yet my vid driver crashes randomly and forces a restart. needless to say I am not a happy camper!!! It's not like I'm some novice using a pc been building and selling systems for 8 yrs now and never had any of these issues in vista or XP already done a system repair and the same issues are still happening regardless. debateing on returning to XP and lableing 7 as a big FAIL. not about to recommend this OS to any customers in the near future. but I do like the GUI and some of the other features but the pros are not outweighing the cons. heck even linux didn't suck this bad in the same system and I tried multiple flavors of that as well. bad MS (spank,spank) lol.

I have been running Windows 7 on multiple computers, including a couple older ones (P4) and have had none of the issues you have mentioned. Most problems stem from incompatible drivers or hardware, IMHO.

I might help if you would post details of your system.

For someone who has been building and selling computers for 8 years, I am surprised at your statement that you believe Windows 7 is a big fail. I also believe you would be doing your customers a disservice if you would recommend against Windows 7 based on one install.

seems that you've taken me to seriously. vista was a big fail for about 8 mos. after release, and drivers seem to be the thing I was leaning toward as well but I also think there is some memory mgmt. issues as well. shifted to my custom build and it seems fine now. altho I have a bit more memory in this build and the drivers are for board based hardware and a nvidia 512 card. At this point I won't fully endorse Windows 7 to my customers but I will install upon request. maybe after a few more months but I need to experiment with it a bit more on hardware first.

This may be another silly question or idea, but have you tried replacing the video card. I have had a LOT and I mean a lot of issues with the 4400 video card.

Agreed, if that CPU is a Pentium 4 then this system is more suitable for XP then 7. 7 needs new hardware not something from the 20th century.

I am sure that there was a driver issue with the vid card upon inspection it seems that the drivers that were installed VIA MS update were for the 5500 and not the 4400 (kinda makes me go hmmm.) and as to winstars statement, these machines are within 2 yrs of age and should have no issues running 7 and then why would MS sell its software as a upgrade from XP as well as vista if they didn't plan for some back compatability in hardware. granted neither systems I am using are duo core procs. but the both are 3 gig or better and hyperthread. so I think that my issues are more with the cards I am using then the MOB. Guess I have just found out what Plug and play really mean. lol.
