That key should be a retail key as Tews has said. You can use it as many times a you like, but it must be used with Home Premium. You cannot go you and get a Pro DVD and use that key. As additional information, most people have no need for Pro or more, Home Premium is more than sufficient. Unless, you really have a need for the additional features that come with Pro, I would keep what you have.

Whatever you decide, I, Tews and the entire Membership wish you the best.

Definitely a retail key, but remember to take off the old one first before you reactivate the new install or Bill Gates gets cranky :).

If you don't have have access to technet resources. Then my post here on student freebies might be of use to you. Student Offer: Boot Disk Required?

Especially Dreamspark, there are some nice free student toys there courtesy of Microsoft (like a full version of Server 2008 and Visual Studio).

    Enjoy!
