7 ultimate install on 2 computers?

    Hello all,

Great forums and useful info. I'm new to the forums, and a total noob to OS installs, so apologies in advance for the following long exposition:

I recently got a new Media Center PC with Windows 7x64 ultimate (which I thought allows installation on 2 PCs)

I have and existing laptop -Toshiba Satellite A200, Vista x32, Intel Core Duo 2GHz, 2GB ram.

Can I do a clean install of 7x64 on my laptop without buying anything more from MS? Do I want to? And, if this is possible, where do I start? (tutorial recommendations much appreciated).

    Thanks!

[more info: Why you ask? Because i have all sorts of glitches networking between vistax32 and 7x64, remote desktop sporadically works (the reason i shelled out for ultimate) and windows 7 is so pretty..]

Could you explain your reasons for this statement?

If you have only one key, its one computer at a time. You can use it on the second if you uninstall from the first.

I assume that you want the tutorial for clean install.

Now that i'm pressed, I can't quite remember where I got the notion that Ultimate allowed install on 2 PCs. Perhaps I'm Wrong???

There is only one rule in this area: one key, one install

Office has something like that so it confuses people.

You can only install Windows on one machine at a time, if it's retail.

If it's OEM, it can't be moved from the machine it's first installed upon, just reinstalled.

It's quite possible that the confusion comes from the fact that many like to use the OEM product to save money on licensing and they understand that this is for 1 computer, and they hear the retail can be put on more than 1 computer...so maybe that explains the notion that you can have it installed on multiple machines.

But as others have clearly stated, it's one key and 1 license and 1 installed computer.
