Validation #'s

Hi Gang

Long time not been on here. Glad to be back. A couple of things that I have been wondering about with Win 7 that I have noticed. One is when you right click on your computer, and go to properties, and down at the bottom where your Windows activation is, the Product Key # is not the real one, it is some goof look alike. Even if you click to change the Product key, and you enter the one that is for your version, it still comes back with a goofy #. Is this normal, and why is this, for protection, etc.?

Also some time when I reboot when it loads up again my resolution is all messed up and the Icon are all messed up, not where they were before I rebooted. Every morning I start it up it is ok, just seems when I reboot for what ever reason.

Thanx....Gunny

Thats right, because if someone logs on to your computer without your permission, it will be bad if he will see your product Key, because he can change it any time and that can remove your genuine Validation of Microsoft.... in other words you don't need to worry because this was only meant for corporate Licences

That number you're seeing at the bottom is your Product ID number. Not the same thing as your license key.

To further explain, generally OEM's use a Product ID that does not require activation in the same way a product key works. They use en mass so they can install on several machines at once. Product ID's are generally locked to your BIOS and is sort of a way for the hardware to be linked to the software.

It says "Product ID" and not product key.

Hi Gang

Thanx for all the great answers, I sort of thought that was the reason but thought I would keep all of you on your toes. :-) I appreciate all your answers.

Now if you all can give me some ideas on the other small problem. I know it is kind of general type question and might have something to do with my computer and not nec the Win 7 program. But thought I would ask any way, it just might be happening to some other people too. As great as Win 7 is, nothing is perfect, ha ha ha

Thanx again....Gunny
