Install Font and Preview font options.. gone..

I installed a Font Manager program as a trial to see if it would help me organize my collection. Once I uninstalled it, when I double click the font it says such and such font is "not a valid font file". I used to be able to right click the *.ttf and the drop down would list an "Install Font" option...that is gone too . Do any of you have an idea on how to fix this? The default settings would be great.

    Running Windows 7...of course.
    Thanks in advance!

Hello colonelmustard, welcome to Seven Forums!

I would do a system restore to a point before you installed the font manager, then if you want to give it another go see if installing it in compatibility mode will help it do what you want; see the 2 tutorials at the links below.

Be sure to post back to let us know how it goes.

    Hi colonelmustard,

Do you mean you always used to be able to click "Install Font" from the dropdown? Or you had that option when the Font Manager was installed? If it's the latter, that just means the context menu option was part of that program. Out of curiosity, what was the name of the software you were using?

    Cheers,

A system restore is a bit drastic...I really have just been able to get all the settings right and all my software installs on this new system. I deleted the trialware that I installed so I am not sure what the name of it was...it was buggy. The menu items "Preview", "Print" and "Install" were there before I installed this trialware. But now after unistall they did not reappear. The "Type" of file my font are called now is just a .TTF not "True Type font file (.TTF)" That appears to be the problem. My laptop is able to install these fonts normally and it is running 7 Home Premium as well.

Well...I fixed the problem with a little effort. Even though the program was uninstalled, it was still wrapped around all .TTF entries in the Registry. I went through and compared my laptops entries for .TTF extensions and that of my desktop and changed / deleted when neccessary. Worked like a charm. Having a program not uninstall itself like this reminded my of Windows 95 days! Thanks guys for your help tho.

just for the information for others,
it always better to remove file associations from the application before uninstalling it
