internet explorer icon pinned to taskbar New user of Windows 7 here. I have the Internet Explorer icon pinned to my taskbar. However, when I click on the IE icon, it changes from an icon to a bar representing the IE window that has opened. I'm wanting to keep the single icon on the taskbar, even when IE is open, like you were able to in XP. Any suggestions? | My System Specs |

If I understand you correctly, to do that I think you would have to go into the Performance Options and turn off Aero Peek. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Home Built OS Windows 7 Ultimate AMD64 CPU AMD Phenom II X4 980 Black Edition Deneb 3.7GHz Motherboard Asus M4N68T-M V2 µATX Motherboard Memory 8GB 4GBx2 Kingston PC10600 DDR3 1333 Memory Graphics Card BFG NVIDIA Geforce 220GT 1 Gig DDR2 PCIe Sound Card VIA VT1708s High Definition Audio 8-channel Onboard Monitor(s) Displays 2 x 19" I-INC AG191D TFT Flat Panel Screen Resolution 1280x1024 x 2 Keyboard Logitech Internet 600 Mouse Logitech Wireless Trackman Wheel PSU Retail Plus 465 Watt Case Power Up Black ATX Mid-Tower Case Cooling Stock heatsink and fan Hard Drives 500 Gig WesternDigital SATA-300 Drive Internet Speed 80 Mbps Down 30 Mbps Up Antivirus Microsoft Security Essentials Browser Internet Explorer 10 Other Info HP DVD1040e Lightscribe - External USB2 |

okay, I've tried to post a picture below about what I'm talking about. In the picture, you'll see the quick launch icon for IE pinned to the task bar in the lower left corder. In XP, when you clicked on this, the icon remained there and you got a separate tile, bar, or button (depending on your terminology) for IE. In Windows 7, when you click on the IE icon, it turns into the bar/button of the window you have just launch. What I'm wanting is to be able to quick launch mutliple IE windows without having to combine anything. I hope this makes sense. | My System Specs | | |

Two questions, one why are still running build 6810, and two what did you already do to get your desktop too look like that? I never ran build 6801 so I don't know if it is supposed to look like that or not, I think not. You might want enable the Aero interface and see if that is more like what you want. It sounds like you are trying to preserve the original quicklaunch functionality where you could just keep clicking on the button to open more copies of explorer. Unfortunately, as far as I know there is no way to do that in 7, they have just completely re-vamped the taskbar.
However, if the only reason you want this is so that you can easily launch new copies of explorer, the same result can be achieved with ctrl+n, which opens a new window. Give it a try and see if it's something you can get used to.
Also, while unrelated, I would advise you that you should probably use a better browser, like firefox. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Lenovo Thinkpad T400 OS Windows 7 |

Hello todd8667, welcome to Seven Forums!
I don't know if this tutorial will help or not but have a look at the link below. Aero - Enable in Unsupported Editions of Windows 7
6801 is really old, aren't you experiencing shutdowns yet? if not it will shut down completely in mid June (or July) I can't remember exactly when; in the start menu search box type "winver" without the quotes then hit enter and you'll get the date in a window like this. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number * BFK Customs * OS W 7 64-bit Ultimate CPU Intel Q9550 Yorkfield Motherboard ASUS P5Q Pro Memory 8GB Dominator 8500C5D Graphics Card ATI : XFX 5870 Sound Card Realtek HD Audio 7-1 Monitor(s) Displays 1x 47" LCD HDMI & 3x 26" LCD HDMI Screen Resolution 1920x1080P & 1920x1200 Keyboard Microsoft 500 Mouse Razer Diamondback 3G PSU Corsair 620HX Case Cooler Master RC-690 Cooling Tuniq Tower 120, 2x 140mm and 3x 120mm case fans Hard Drives 1x 80GB Intel X25-M G2 SSD : 1x 500GB & 1x 640GB WD Caviar Black(s) Internet Speed 14 Mb/s Other Info 1x Koutech 3Gb/s SATA HDD Hot Swap Rack |

When you right click on the icon, you should get what you see in the picture. When you click on what's in the red box, you launch a new IE. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP, Dell, Gateway, Toshiba - 4 laptops and 2 desktops OS Vista, Windows7, Mint Mate, Zorin, Windows 8 CPU from 1.6GHz Duo to i7 Monitor(s) Displays 2x HP w2207 Keyboard with trackball - no mices Mouse Trackball mice Hard Drives 5x HDD, 7x SSD, 12x Externals Internet Speed DSL 6000 internet explorer icon pinned to taskbar problems?
