Which to buy - Upgrade or Full for RC computer

I did a clean install of Windows 7 RC on my laptop since it had a new HD and no OS on it. Would I be able to use an Upgrade option on it (upgrading from RC) or do I have to buy the full version?

You will need to buy the full version.

+1 you will need the full RTM. It's only really designed to upgrade from XP or Vista, but even then, i'd personally clean install to get the best from RTM when it hits the shelves

You personal files can be saved using the Easy Transfer Tool

Hello PatsBard Welcome to the sevenforums. Yes you would for sure want to back up your files and maybe make a few notes on all the tweeks you have made. Do a clean install for sure. However that being said you can use the upgrade version of 7 what is bound to be cheaper. It worked in vista have a look at this. http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase...rade_clean.asp

I read that you can only upgrade from home to home and from pro to pro. however you can buy home then upgrade and then upgrade that to pro for a few dollors more. If you just have to upgrade, I plan to dual boot so as to save Vista for whatever its worth. Just like I am doing now.lm

I know when I upgraded to Vista Home Premuim x64 from XP, I had to do a clean install since it was x64 bit. Is this the case with Windows 7 x64?

I always buy the upgrade and do a clean install. The upgrades always ask to put the previous version CD/DVD in to verify for the upgrade.
