Can no longer select multiple files

I have seen topic posted saying it is 'user error' but not saying what user error was?

However I cannot select either with ctrl, shift, new check box thingy or drag window thingy - I used to be able to. It tries for 1/2 a second or so but then deselects with no user interaction

Please help it is driving me nuts

    Cheers

Hello graham3000, welcome to Seven Forums!

Have a look at the tutorial at the link below to see if a sfc scan will resolve the issue; be sure to post back to let us know how it sorts out.

Hello Graham, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might try this fix from Vista to see if it may be able to help you with this in Windows 7 as well. I believe it is the same in Windows 7 for this.

    Hope this helps,

Thank you Brink and Bare Foot Kid

I tried the sfc /scan in an elevated comand prompt, it returned no errors, all files were fine.

Unfortunately this has made no difference.

I tried the FixSingleSelect.vbs script (had to recreate it, the link you posted took you to an under construction site - attached if anyone needs it!)

Again, unfortunately this did not work

I also reset all folder optios to default and again no joy

So ............. no multiple file selection for me

Can anyone help and make any other suggestions please

    Cheers

    Try this.

    RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, use the Reset Folders command. To use the Reset
    Folders command, follow these steps:
    1. In the Windows Explorer window where this issue occurs, click
Organize, and then click Folder and Search Options.
    2. On the View tab, click Reset Folders.

    Holla back either way.

    Graham,

Be sure that you open Folder Options from within that exact same Windows Explorer window that you want to use this on. If you open Folder Options from any other location, then this option will be grayed out.

    Hope this helps,

Cannot Select Multiple Files in Win 7

    Shawn

The only way I managed to get past the greyed out on reset folders was via control panel folder options (option 1). I could not do via options 2 and 3 (still greyed out). It certainly reset, but I am still unable to select multiple files

Just to prove I was not going bonkers I downloaded a third party open source file manager called Surf SurF - Free, Open Source File Manager for Windows 7, Vista and XP

This works perfectly but I would still like my normal file manager to work please

    Cheers

    Graham -

I would create an new user in Windows 7 with the exact account rights that you have.

Login to windows with that user profile and see if the same problem exists. If it does not, then your user profile is corrupt.

    Hi Graham,
Go into the folder you want to multiple select, ie pictures, click Organize, click Folder & Search option, in View tick USE CHECK BOXES TO SELECT ITEMS.
This is my very first time in the Forum and I hope it was successful!
