    Used Vaio Laptop

I have acquired a used sony vaio laptop. When I need the internet, I have been using my ethernet plug-in cord from my desktop PC and plug it into my laptop. But, have been told that all I need is a router so the laptop can be used in another area of the house not just beside my desktop and even out of area, like a campground. The management has an internet tower installed on the campground premises.

Now my question is -- if this is what I should do, could someone advise me as to a recommended reliable brand name and in what approx. price range would grant me reliable service?

Second question - How do I remove the previous owner's registered name off the laptop? Is it maybe too complicated for an average user or would a pro. tech be required?
    Thanks

Veegee this link below will show you how to create a new user account on the laptop

    User Account - Create

To Change the Registered Owner's Name inside Windows 7 ?

Click on then type REGEDIT inside the search box and press Enter . If you get a UAC window click on Yes . Once you're inside the registry navigate to

    Code:
     HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
Look at the right side for " RegisteredOwner " right click and choose modify then input a new name click OK and close the registry . Restart the PC .

Regarding a router you could go with any Wireless-N router .

You can change the Computer name at Control Panel>System, and as already suggested create a new Adminstrative-level account in Control Panel>User Accounts. Then you can delete the old User account.

First question - Yes having a Router will allow you to connect anywhere in your house WIRELESSLY. Connect the Router to the Broadband connection from your ISP. - Note if you are using a CABLE connection you might not even need a Router - but I'm assuming you have a broadband connection via the phone system.

Enable the WIRELESS connection of course and ensure your computer has a Wifi card in it (Sony VAIO will have one). Range is more than sufficient unless you live in a place like Beverly Hills CA and have a HUGE mansion where the area of their Dining Room TABLE is probably larger than that of most "normal" people's entire house. Otherwise you'll have to get an "Extender" but probably not necessary. CISCO / LINKSYS are usually OK for routers.

To delete the Users account on the laptop just go into administrator mode and choose accounts and delete the previous owner's account -- you'll be prompted whether you just want to delete the account or delete all the data files as well.

If there are email accounts on the machine you'll have to delete those accounts as per email client.

Clear all cookies and internet temporary files as well.

To change the computer name just go into system (via control panel) and choose computer name etc.

    Cheers
