File transferring

Is it normal when transferring files from your PC to an external hard drive speeds around 8.5 MB/second. The files I am transferring is going through USB. Or is there a way to speed this up? Just trying to save some time, it's a big file.

Thanks Bob

Use USB2 Bus, use USB2 to SATA/IDE converter, then finally, use a fast harddisk on both sides (on the computer and on the external disk).

Edit: I forgot to mention, if you're using a HUB, make sure it's USB2, not USB1.1, 8.5MB/s is USB 1.1 speeds.

Apart from what zzz2496 said, you should enable write caching in Device Manager > the device > Properties > Policies. Just make sure you use safely remove all the time.
