Just installed '7' and need help badly!

    Hi all!
    I just installed win7 home 32.

    I have 2 important questions.
    1 - On my DVD/s letters J and K respectivly, when I have a disc in them
The letters change from DVD RW Drive J to DVD RW Drive (J:) Win_7 Compatible

Then in the Computer Management, under the drives, it says:
    Win_7 Compatible (J:)

IF the above show up as a smilie face, it is ( J : ) without the spaces!

How the heck do I get rid of that Win_7 Compatible ??????????

2 - On my taskbar, I have my normal icons for open programs,
but every time I hover over them, a small version of the open program displays.
Is there any way to get rid of that option? It's VERY annoying!!!

Thank you for your prompt help!

    Welcome!

    1.

Right-click on the drive in My COmputer, and select Rename. You should then be able to delete the Win_7 Compatible.

    2.

That is Aero Peek. Many users love it, but it drives others crazy. It is simply a matter of preference. To disable it, see here: Aero Peek - Turn On or Off

    Hope this helps,

    ah ha!

It was NOT the Aero. It WAS the Taskbar Thumbnail Previews !!!
So I am downloading the tweaker!

Now, as far as renaing my DVD burning drives ...
There is NO option anywhere to do that.
I was able to do that on my HDD but not the CD/DVD's ...
    Any other suggestions?

    Thanks for you hep again!!!

I would suggest leaving it for awhile. It annoyed me at first as well, but after awhile I came to depend on it, especially when I have multiple instances of a program open. Point to the Icon on the Taskbar and select the one I want from the popups.

As far as renaming a hard drive or in your case an optical drive, see this tutorial by Brink: Drive Name Change - Vista Forums

I'm trying this in 64-bit Windows 7 and I'm getting errors saying the "DriveIcons" key already exists.

I don't think it's going to work as is.

I just got it to work, there's already a key named "DriveIcons" up above and that one works to change the name; I don't really like it though.

Now that I figured it all out I find a tutorial that Brink has created at the link below.

    Hi!
I just tried this and it did NOT work!
Every time I put a DVD in the drive this is what I get:
    DVD RW Drive (K:) WIN_7_COMPATIBLE

If there is nothing in the drive I get this:
    DVD RW Drive (K:)
It's the WIN_7_COMPATIBLE that I need to get rid of!

again if you see a happy face like I am seeing, it's ( K: )

    DVD RW Drive ( K: ) WIN_7_COMPATIBLE

Also, while I am here, I might as well get the rest of these windows 7 questions out of the way.
I feel like I am wasting so much time trying to look up the answers I can't get anything installed.
1 - How do I remove ALL of the locks and shortcut
arrows on ALL of the folders in every category?
I am the only user on my machine, and it's already getting old getting denied access to my own folders.
2 - Is there a way to right click in a folder to add anything other than another folder?
In XP we used to be able to add .txt, .doc, .html and everything else.
3 - Is there a way to change the look of certain things,
like the way a .txt icon looks?

    That's enough to start.
I have got so much work to do and I am getting a bit flustered.

Thank you ALL for your help!!!
