Windows 7: Disable Scan and Fix Removable Drive Notification?

Anyone know how to disable the "Do You Want to Scan and Fix Removable Drive" notification that pops up whenever a removable storage device is plugged into a USB port? Don't tell me it is from not ejecting the device properly, it comes up no matter how the device is ejected. I also tried scanning the device and it still pops up no matter what action you take. I just want the notification to be permanently disabled, it drives me nuts. I shouldn't have to click cancel on 2 notifications every single time I plug a device into a port, so annoying.

No, but I have same issue on all my flashdrives in both Vista and Windows 7!

Curious, because I just tried 3 different flash drives and none produced a message such as that. 2 just asked what to do with the files that they contained, and the third being a U3 drive had some different options, but still no error message.

In a Command Prompt, I ran:

chkdsk M: /f

on the drive (M is the drive letter of your removable drive). Not sure if it would work with iPods.

This allowed me to plugin a USB stick without getting the scan and fix message and I almost always remove it from the USB port without Safely Removing Hardware.

I have not tested this fix in windows 7 yet but it works with Vista.


Oh, after many hours of investigating this annoyance, I found out how to stop the "Do you want to scan and fix" problem.

Lol. Found this on 02/05/2012, and it is still relevant. Windows 8 will be here soon though, so I can't say it will be for too long.
