Win7 not in standby

I've set my power options to go to sleep after 30 minutes but my machine refuses to go the sleep mode. Is there something I can do?

Are you running any programs? Windows is prevented from going to sleep while certain programs are running. Some recent installed program could be running in the background, you'll need to check task manager.

Can you manually put it in sleep mode with by assigning a hardware button in the power control panel? If it sleeps that way without error then Orbital Shark is on the money -- you've got something running likely something like uTorrent:

I can put the machine manually in S3 Sleep mode.
Everything is the same as in Vista and in Vista Sleep worked well.
Windows 7 just refuses to go in sleep after 30 minutes idle.

No one with this problem?
I have setup a second machine with RC1 build 7100 and also this machine refuses to go to sleep mode after a period of time.
This second machine has no other software installed that is not needed for Media Center.

I had the same problem with Vista, had to do it manually.
I've had mixed success with Windows 7, sometimes yes, often no. When I put it to sleep manually, it will come back to life on it's own, sometimes almost immediatly.
Could it be Microsoft running something? I guess I can always shut it down, but if it's M$, no doubt they will start it up again.

I have had the same problem in Windows 7. The way to fix it is to go to your network card properties (NVidia in my case) and make sure that Wake on pattern match is disabled under advanced tab and under power management tab checked the box Only allow a magic packet to wake the computer.

Let me know if this work for you.

This settings were already there. It's not the machine wakes up right after putting it manually in standby. It won't go to standby automaticly.

My little brother had the same issue and it was because he'd done and upgrade. The problem didn't exist when he did a clean install.
My friend had a similar problem as well and it was due to his keyboard and mouse, you might try a different keyboard and mouse and see if the problem disappears. If so, you will know it's your keyboard and mouse.
