Windows 7 - icons disappear after renaming

Windows 7 64 bit

icons disappear after renaming

If I install a program, say Norton 360 and try to rename it, the icon itself disappears. The program is fine. I also discovered that if I create a shortcut of the program from the start menu and rename it, it doesn't disappear.

I'm not sure if this is a Windows 7 thing or if its because I have the 64 bit and its just a bug.

Thanks,
Kirie05

Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, clean install, upgrade disc

Welcome Kirie,

This seems to be a semi prevelant problem. In the future put the shortcuts on your desktop and leave all the original icons in documents, in a folder. Mine is called computer information. I also leave notes about the computer in that folder.
You will be able to change the name and the actual icon to suit you.

As far as getting them back a system restore would probably be the most easy way.
