I have a number of grandchildren who visit regularly. They are all true 21st Century children who know how to use computers as easily as we older folks used to dial a telephone. Remember they used to have rotary dials. The 12-year-old has been using computers for years, and has her own PC in her room. Doesn't everyone? When she visits, she often uses my old Compal FL30 notebook. It has a 2 GHz Pentium M, 1.25 GB RAM, nVidia 6400 and a 7200 RPM Hitachi HDD. Because there was no comprehensive
driver set for Vista (very bad WEI), it's been running the original XP it came with. Since the last time she had used this notebook a few weeks ago, I successfully installed Windows 7 build 7068. All the hardware, including the video controller and webcam were supported by Windows 7. The WEI was quite decent. She did notice the new wallpaper and gadgets right away, and after sessions of IMming, laughing baby videos on YouTube and some Webkinz she remarked, "Grandpa, this thing sure is fast." Yes, Windows 7 sure is fast on older hardware.
Bye.
