    Thinking about getting Windows 7

Hi there everyone! got a douct: Im thinking about getting Windows 7 Home Premium and I don't know if it'll run smoothly on my computer. I've got a computer with:
    • 2 GB RAM
    • Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 1.8 GHz
    • nVidia GeForce 9500 GT 1 GB Graphics Card (Sure it'll work)
    • CD/DVD Drive (don't have to worry)
A question: will it also run games as well as Vista? I don't know if I upgrade the performance will slow down.

please also tell me the recommended system reqs as i cant find them anywhere!

    System Requirements for Windows 7:

    1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
On another note, that setup will run Windows 7. If you want to run games, I suggest upgrading to 4GB of ram and using 64-bit. Your graphics card is fine, you processor is a bit slow but should do the job. If you really wanted, you could upgrade your processor to one of these:

    E7500 - 2.93GHZ - 3MB L2 - $120
    E8400 - 3.0ghz - 6MB L2 - $180
    Q9550 - 2.83GHZ - 12MB L2 - $260
    More LGA 775 Chips

As long as you've got a motherboard that supports the LGA 775 chipset, it should install just fine. Upgrade before you buy Windows 7 though, as major hardware changes require talking with tech support due to software keys being hard linked to the hardware nowadays.

Welcome to the Se7en Forums! Manu97

The upgrade advisor as Capt.Jack Sparrow recommended as well as reviewing what drivers and updates are available would be strongly advised before considering the 64bit 7. With some older hardwares you will likely need at least the 64bit Vista updates and drivers sets.

Now that you are considering 7 you may want to look over the comparisons between 7 and the two previous versions seen at Windows 7: Compare Windows 7 to Windows XP and Windows Vista

Additional information on requirements to consider especially for gaming purposes.

Additional requirements to use certain features:
    • Internet access (fees may apply)
    • Depending on resolution, video playback may require additional memory and advanced graphics hardware
    • Some games and programs might require a graphics card compatible with DirectX 10 or higher for optimal performance
    • For some Windows Media Center functionality a TV tuner and additional hardware may be required
    • Windows Touch and Tablet PCs require specific hardware
    • HomeGroup requires a network and PCs running Windows 7
    • DVD/CD authoring requires a compatible optical drive
    • BitLocker requires Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 1.2
    • BitLocker To Go requires a USB flash drive
    • Windows XP Mode requires an additional 1 GB of RAM and an additional 15 GB of available hard disk space.
    • Music and sound require audio output
Product functionality and graphics may vary based on your system configuration. Some features may require advanced or additional hardware.

I still run some real old 98-XP games on the 64bit 7 here for a thought.
