A window with the desktop pops up when I start the comp

It just started doing that. How do I make it stop? Maybe it has something to do with when I right clicked on the doodad on the lower right corner and checked "peek at desktop" to see what that does, but I've unchecked it and the desktop window still pops up at startup, checked or unchecked.

Hello WWW, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Could you post back a screenshot of this window to just help us confirm what this may be? :)

Thanks, Brink. I couldn't get the screenshot your way - PntScrn doesn't seem to work (I'm using an external monitor and keyboard on my laptop) - but I did it another way (with Clipmate). Hopefully it works...

Double check in your Startup folder in the Start Menu to see if you have a Desktop shortcut in it. If so, you can delete the shortcut to stop it.

If not, then double check using the other methods and options in the tutorial below to see if you may have the Desktop folder (c:\Users\(user-name)\Desktop) listed in one of the other startup program locations. If so, you can delete it from there to stop it.

    Hope this helps,

My startup folder is empty, and I can't find any desktop folder listed in any of the other startup program locations. Like I said it only started doing this after I experimentally checked that "peek at desktop" thing.

Can you do a system restore and put the system back to before this happened?
I hate to suggest it instead of finding a fix, but if a solution cant be found, it is why it is there. It has solved problems for me before.

I could, T, but I don't know if it's really worth it at this point. It's such a minor annoyance, and I might lose some changes. Is there perhaps a problem with the "peek at desktop" thing? What is it supposed to do anyway? Has anyne else tried checking it, and then unchecking it, to see if they have the same problem with the popup desktop window?

Alternately to looking in Startup, you can get Autoruns and see if there is something in the programs that is set to run at startup. Be careful though this is a pretty complex program. But in order to make changes you need to run as admin so look around first and see if you spot anything suspicious and post a screenshot of what you think might be a culprit.

Can you manipulate this window? Move it about, click on items and close it?
