    What's not in Windows 7 RC1

There doesn't seem to much change in build 7100 from 7077, so what do you think should have been added and still isn't?

    1. Save each Windows view settings.

    2. Auto arrange icons and align icons to grid options in explorer windows.

    3. Save open windows on reboot.

    4. 60Hz Native resolution.

    5. Extended desktop Taskbar.

    6. Windows Mail (optional)

    7. Dreamscene (optional)

    8. You can still only pin folders to Explorer if you have the Taskbar preferences set to Store and Display recently opened items in the Start menu.

    9. The Send feedback shortcut.

    10. Opening any file by dropping it on a pinned Taskbar icon.

    11. Choice of folder colours (so over yellow folders)

What other things do you think should have been in Windows 7 RC1?

That is what I would really like to have. I know there are some third party software, but they currently do not have all the features of the "real" taskbar in Win7.

    (1) On the taskbar, you can still only pin folders to Explorer if you have the Taskbar preferences set to Store and Display recently opened items in the Start menu.

If you disable this, things you've pinned prior remain pinned, but you can't pin anything new until re-enabled.

You should be able to pin to Explorer regardless of the setting, but you can't.

Anyway, that's one fix that still hasn't made it in.

    (2) And I would really really really like built-in ability to have the monitor sleep immediately whenever the computer is locked. Last I checked, it still wasn't even sleeping after, say, 20 minutes if that's what I had it set to do, though it would sleep after 20 minutes if I didn't lock it.

Anyway, simultaneous locking and monitor sleeping would be great, but for now it still requires third-party stuff.

Oh gods! #1 would be great! I sent feedback on every build I tested about this (that had the Send feedback button). Which brings up #9. Okay, you don't want it just sitting on the desktop for every user. After all, you don't want mom sending you feedback saying "My MySpace page is pink. Make it blue." However a secret link, like say something hidden in command line even, would be fantastic! I think they're really shooting themselves in the foot by not including such an option for the really technically savvy.

#2 I don't really miss, but that's cause I never used it. Still was there really a need to remove it?

#4 I'm not sure you're right about. I installed Win7 without any out of box drivers and my monitor was running at 60 Hz.

#7 will be available in "Win 7 Plus" product. No I haven't heard anything about this, but it only makes sense. It wasn't really enough to drive sales for Ultimate, so they'll just make it a seperate product instead. Though in way, you could consider that Ultimate versions were the Plus products. Over all, I think they're rethinking their marketing avenues on this and it's not going away.

    #1-2-5-6-8 and 9.

Also, opening a file by dropping on pinned icon still only works with windows programs and a rare few others, none of which helps me any.

With the emphasis on touch that Microsoft is pushing I would love to see a way to pull the taskbar out from autohide in a similar way that you pull the Touch input panel.

    12. Virus/Malware/Spyware proof. (With the exception of what idiot users just have to click on, that's on them.)
