Win 7 slower than Vista? :S

Just went back to Vista32bit for a while... everything is so much faster!

Is it just my experience? or is Win7 actually slower? :sarc:

It all depends on your system specifications. In addition, W7 is currently undergoing evaluation and, as such, some of the code may not yet be compiled for full speed.

Heck no, Windows 7 I've found is to be a lot faster. Vista was impossible to run on my computer (eMachines T3092 - 512MB of RAM), whereas Windows 7 runs nicely. I've even got Windows 7 running on another computer with only 256MB of RAM using an old ATI Radeon 7000 with an Intel Celeron 800MHz (12 year old computer!). Vista would always cause that machine to reboot during startup. I think instead of going back to Vista, you should have done a clean install of Windows 7.

What build are you even using? I go back to my highly optimized install of Vista, and it runs way slower than my barely optimized 7 install.

I have used Vista x64 since beta and have been using Win 7 x64 since beta.
Win 7 is faster and smoother in all it does. :)

Yours must be the most unique computer in the known (and unknown) universe.

I don't think many will have the same experience and this is straight OOB -- before any system tinkering in W7.

Hi bigmama,

It depends - partly on your hardware- you may be comparing x86 to x64 - you may have Vista installed on the first partition - you may have turned UAC off.

The only way to compare is to use the same bit versions of both, and run both without UAC.

Vista boots 20% faster on my machine than any of the 7 builds so far.

:shock: What?! I it is so ,you're the first ever! And yes ,I'll ask it too - did you made upgrade or clean install? Someone mentioned boot time : on mine primary machine Vista needed almost minute - 54 sec ,while Seven boots in 37. I think it's just your experience!! And ,if you tested 64bit version of Seven it is slower then 32bit but not so slower!!

My bootup time in vista is 53 secs but in win 7 its 57 secs. thats the only performance issue i have faced so far.
