Most of the processes are probably not useful or updaters and self-installed.

My system when I got it had 75 processes and I dropped about 30 of them as they were not needed at all. I dont recommend disabling win 7 functionality, but 3rd party apps try to load on startup and if you aren't using them daily then dont allow them to load you will see a tremendoes improvement. pre-loading may save you 10 seconds when running the app, but if it kills your boot speed by 5 minutes then in my opinion, you are loosing speed. Just my opinion.

Also Winpatrol is a good combination of Autoruns and process explorer, but it is shareware so I haven't used it yet.

thanks i understand, i am just going through the system now and have found quite a few unnecessary things running in the background there are a lot of system programs running i notice too that in the google chrome i use as main browser it uses a lot of processes due to the extensions i have installed so i will thin out those. its coming down as i am posting this :)

The ultimate fix for this is a clean reinstall of Win7, adding programs slowly so you can observe any performance hits. If you have pre-installed 7, you only need to borrow or find any installer to unlock all versions, then install your licensed version which will activate using the Product Key stickered to the machine.

You might also try IE8 as they finally got it right. I get performance hits from Firefox or Chrome now that I don't see at all with IE8 which seems more stable overall.

have a look and you will see lots of memory being used here

the cpu has come down big now while idle and when i start up new programs there is only a little increase but not right down to 2% while idle.

thanks for all the help i have to get ready for work i will get back to this later:) i will try and not run so many processes!! im a bit of a mad multi-tasker doing to much at once and leave things running in the background when finished thanks again :)

hi i have got my cpu down now and have found that kis uses 40% of my cpu and when it updates or i run a virus check it goes to 80% i have emailed there support team to find out what the average should be.

Just curious, but was the AV app doing a boot time scan?
